The arborvitae is one of the oldest conifer trees that provide multiple purposes in landscaping, music, and medicine. The oil from the bark is used in medicine and the wood is used as a soundboard for guitars. Arborvitae's come in various types, shapes, and sizes. The Holmstrup became popular in America in the 1960s. The Holmstrup is known for its scaling leaves and its color retention through the winter.
