Acer griseum

Paperbark Maple is named for arguably its most intriguing characteristic: cinnamon-brown to reddish-brown, exfoliating bark that as it ages turns purple-brown. This small, hardy tree prefers well-drained loam soil but will grow in clay almost as well. It does not tolerate drought, however. It is especially beautiful in the fall with its unusual bark and long-lasting, reddish-orange foliage. In spring and summer, its silvery-green leaves cast a light shade. (It can get twiggy inside.) *Deer May Browse the Leaves*
