Bugleweed is a fast-growing herbaceous perennial used for groundcover. It spreads by runners and makes a mat of dark green leaves that become bronzed purple by the sun. Bears dense racemes of bluish-purple flowers on 4-6Ó scapes during the spring and early summer. When flowers are spent, tidy up by mowing on high setting.
Makes a fine companion plant with taller perennials, leggy shrubs, and small trees; it can over plant spring bulbs such as Snowdrops or summer bulbs such as Fritillary.
