Callicarpa americana
American Beautyberry is a showy, upright, spreading, deciduous shrub that, in mid summer, produces pale pink flowers. In the Autumn, the American Beautyberry freely produces dark violet berries. Berries are edible. Many folks made home-made jelly out of the berries.
When cut, berry stalks are equally beautiful (or perhaps more so) in arrangements. For example, participants in our wreath-making workshops (just after Thanksgiving) love them as accents tucked among evergreen boughs.
