Eastern redbud is a spreading, multi-stemmed deciduous tree with heart-shaped leaves that are pointed at the tips.
Foliage is Bronze when young, turning Yellow in the Autumn. Deep crimson, purple to pink, or occasionally white flowers are borne in clusters of 2-8 on bare stems, before the leaves emerge.
Flowers are said to be edible.
