Ilex x 'Nellie R. Stevens'
A large shrub or small tree, Nellie Stevens Holly is the result of a cross between English holly (Ilex aquifolium) and Chinese holly (Ilex cornuta). From the English it received strikingly handsome leaves. From the Chinese came large red berries produced without aid of pollination.
This is a rapid growing holly reaching a height of 15-35' within 20 years. Grows well in sun to partial shade; drought tolerant; does not like soil to stay wet. Tall, broadly pyramidal, and dense, so it makes an excellent screen.
