Nandina domestica
This upright, evergreen shrub is the standard Nandina. It is related to the barberry bush (has nothing to do with bamboo).
New foliage is red to reddish purple, then turns to metallic bluish green, acquiring red tones during winter months. In midsummer, it bears star-shaped, upright, white flower panicles. These are followed by long-lasting, bright red berries. May develop suckers.
*Deer Resistant & Drought Tolerant* ~ NC Native ~ ~ Do not consume any part of the plant, it is not for human or mammal consumption. However, Birds LOVE the berries ~
