The term ñandromedaî comes from an earlier genus name for this plant. It is a flowering evergreen shrub that grows to a height and spread of 4-8 feet in 10-12 years.
Flowers in April and May, having 3-6î-long drooping clusters of white or blush white blossoms. Grows best in partial shade (especially in hot dry periods.) Tolerates sun if soil is moist. Right after flowering, remove spent seed capsules and prune to shape.
Poisonous if eaten.
