Pinus mugo 'Pumilio'
A native of the Alps, Swiss Mountain Pine, also known as Mugo Pine, grows best in the Upper and Middle South.
The long humid summers of the Lower South are just too severe. Low growing shrub pine. Excellent as a specimen. May be pruned in spring to keep dwarf shrubby form by pinching back all or part of the new shoots (called candles).
Slow grower, after 15-20 years, the plant may have a height and spread of only 4' to 6'.
*Seldom Damaged by Deer* Attracts: Birds (especially the Gold Finch)
