Also known as checkerberry. Slow-growing groundcover with dark green, glossy leaves. White flowers are followed by large, red edible berries. Flowers appear in May - July. Berries July -  March. Does not do well in full sun. Can tolerate wet or dry soil conditions. Also called checkerberry, teaberry, groundholly and spiceberry.
