Silver Maple trees have witnessed a lot of North American history. They were brought here primarily by Scots and Irish immigrants, who arrived in the Midatlantic region and points south in the 17th Century, and who knew the tree to be a hardy and long-lived. It is large and fast-growing, reaching 80 ft. in height. Leaves are bright green above and silvery-white beneath, turning yellow (tinged a little with red or orange) in fall. Bark is rough, and it sheds.
