Corylus maxima

A shrub 10-30 feet high, sometimes treelike, the twigs and foliage are sticky-hairy. Corylus is the classical name for the hazel. The hazel is a general term comprising all the shrubs and trees of the genus Corylus of the birch family, all the 15 species being found in the north temperate zone. Some of them yield hazelnuts and filberts, both of which are cult. If you're interested in planting hazelnuts for their nuts, be sure you have a bit of space. You'll need to plant 2 or more shrubs to ensure a good crop. Low Maintenance. Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Prompt removal of root suckers will help maintain plant appearance, and, if desired, help prevent thicket formation. Edible Nuts July-August *Deer May Browse*
