Clematis x 'Warsaw Nike'
Warsaw Nike sports velvety, reddish-purple, 5" flowers that contrast nicely with their yellow stamens. This 8-10' vine will produce bloom from summer into autumn. In early spring, prune lightly above the new leaf buds and remove dead or weak stems.
In late May, flowers will appear on the previous season's growth; then, in mid-to-late summer, you will get more flowers on the new growth that will last through September. Note: An initial key to growing Clematis successfully appears to be keeping the plant's root system cool. The most vigorous vines seem to result from 3" - 4" of good mulch, plenty of moisture, and protection from the hot afternoon sun.
