Kanza Pecan Tree (Type II) * SOLD OUT (check back in Autumn) *
Carya illinoensis 'Kanza'
The Kanza is a high yielding cultivar that features pecans with golden kernels and delicious nuts. It was bred primarily for increased cold tolerance and as disease resistant to the dreadful pecan scab, but is resistant to a variety of other pests and diseases.
This is a Type-2 pollinator and requires a Type-1 to produce nuts. The Kanza is heat tolerant and does best in full sunlight with loamy, well-drained soil. This tree will begin to harvest its outstandingly tasty pecans early in the season, typically in late September through October.
The nuts are very similar in size to those produced by Elliot- small and round with approximately 74 nuts per pound with 52% kernel.
