Type I Bears heavy crops at an early age. 55-60 nuts per pound. Best for Southeast states. Unprotected young trees may be susceptible to sun scald. Hardy to 0-10 degrees F(zones 5-9). Large nuts easy to shell; harvest mid October. Pecans prefer slightly acid soil (pH 5.5-6.5).
Pecan fertilizer has extra zinc, shich is required for good nut production (12-4-8 with a unit of zinc). Fertilize 2 times each year in February and May.
Note: Pecans are not self pollinating. Plant at least two within a quarter mile of each other. It takes a Type I and Type II to cross pollinate (Stuart & Elliott are good pollinators). Should bear in 7-10 yrs. after planting.
