Metasequoia glyptostroboides

The arborvitae was used by eastern native Americans in crafts and construction. It has been called the –tree of life” for its supposed medicinal properties, of which there are many (we don't swear to this). These days it is widely used as an ornamental tree or as fencing. This cultivar is small, growing no more than 12' in height and 4' in width, and slow growing. It is one of the finest looking conical, or columnar, conifers we know of because its growth is compact, its rich, bright-green, fan-like foliage very dense all year. –Smaragd' can be used many ways in the landscape (see photographs). Protect from drying wind, especially when young. *Deer May Browse (if hungry enough)*. Hardiness Zones:  5 - 7
